Many fun, interesting, and free thing to do in and around 90042 this weekend. Get out and enjoy this Summer’s delightful weather with some of these choice educational and cultural events:

Friday, August 13:

Start your weekend off right by getting a tattoo! Vintage Tattoo at 5115 York Blvd will having a Friday the 13th Party all day by offering $13 “13” tattoos.

This, Los Angles at 5906 North Figueroa is hosting a show titled EXPOSED. What will likely be their first kid-free opening, THIS will be showing photos with lots and lots of nude breasts in an effort to raise Breast Cancer awareness and fund Breast Cancer research. The show is curated by Magdalena Wosinska, who is launching her book “Bite it You Scum” this night. The party is from 7pm-10pm.

Saturday, August 14:
The Arroyo Seco Library at 6145 N. Figueroa Street will be hosting a Solar Mixer “Come hear from a solar energy expert. Learn about the financial and environmental benefits of solar energy. Find out the process involved in going solar. Bring your questions. Program presented by One Block Off the Grid. All are welcome.”

NELA Art Night. 21 places to see and buy art around Northeast Los Angeles. Download the map and discover the abundance fine art in our corner of Los Angeles. Starts at 7pm.

Spoke(N)Art Ride. A group bicycle ride that starts and ends at The Bike Oven. The absolute best way to see NELA Art Night. This ride has become so popular over the years the ride is now split into a slow rider section and a speed demon section. There’s always an after party at The Oven with food, beverages, music, bike races, burning pinatas, and more art. The Bike Oven is located at 3714 N Figueroa 90065. Ride meets at 6:30 and rolls at 7PM.

Midnight Picnic is happening at the people’s park of Highland Park, La Tierra de la Culebra. Live Art and music by Midnight Special, Ju Ju Bones, and The Apple Man. La Tierra de la Culebra is located at 240 South Ave 57 Los Angeles, CA 90042. Show starts at 7PM.

Heritage Square Square Dance with Triple Chicken Foot. The first ever square dance at Heritage Square is happening Saturday evening from 5-7pm. Music by old timey trio, Triple Chicken Foot, with calling by Corry Marie, and dance lessons for the unlearned. $5.

Bloomfest LA 2010 happens in the Gold Line adjacent Arts District from Noon to 11PM. Over 40 open art studios with free shuttle service, vendors, bands, food trucks and more… In Downtown Los Angeles around Traction and 3rd Street.

The 70th Annual Nisei Week takes place across Alameda Street from Bloomfest along 1st and 2nd Street in Little Tokyo on Saturday and Sunday. Way too many activities to list here. Suffice to say, this weekend is the best weekend of the year to visit Little Tokyo. They have been sprucing up the area lately, if you haven’t been in a while it’s worth the $1.5o Gold Line fare to get there. The Grand Parade takes place on Sunday at 5:30pm.

Chinatown Summer Nights is also happening again this Saturday from 5pm to Midnight.

Sunday, August 15:
Concerts at The Square. Artichoke opens for the Mariachi Divas at Heritage Square on Sunday starting at 5PM. Take a picnic or just buy some hot dogs from Pinks, and end this packed weekend right. Thanks to the LA County Arts Commission, this event is FREE.
